Welcome to the review of Season 1 of Leicester City. Season 1 took the fans through many emotions as there was a time that they were battling for top 4 and another time where they crashed out of the Shield semi finals against Leeds. Pundits (Mr Hammer) suggested that Leicester would finish in the top 8, so he was right. Season 1 overall was a good season and Leicester City will be looking to build on from that.

The Season:

On the 28th June 2017, Fert Dert was appointed as the manager of Leicester City on a three-year deal after doing very well with Brighton in the previous TFF. The chairman gave him the objective of finishing in the top half of the table but Fert decided to adjust that to the top 8. With 21 million in the budget, Heintz and Henrichs were brought in, as a left back and right back were needed.

Leicester city went on a good run beating Chelsea and Manchester United in their first 2 matches but their first loss came against Arsenal on match day 6. Throughout the first half of the season the only teams we lost to were Manchester City, Hull, Tottenham and Liverpool. There were also so many draws where Leicester City should have won. At this time, I decided to bring in Isco from Real Madrid and De Vrij as I needed a better defender and I couldn’t pass up on Isco, so Mahrez had to go. This didn’t help us however as we went on a bad form in September winning only against Manchester United and Burnley. It was during that month when we lost 1 – 0 to Middlesbrough. I wanted to sell all the players after that loss but decided to be patient and have faith in them. After having a word with my team, we did good in the month of October only losing to Watford and Liverpool although we should have done better against Watford. We then ended up only losing to Manchester City in November and that was our best month in terms of results. It was also in that month that we had a huge team change where Vardy, Fuchs and others were sold. I did that because I wanted players with potential, so I brought in the likes of Meyer, Alisson, Luan and Bernardeschi. We managed to finish 8th but if we had done better in the matches we should have won, we would have finished 5th. At the end of the day, we achieved our objectives and I look forward to season 2.

The Cups:

We lost all our matches in the SMFA Shield due to me not being a gold manager, so I couldn’t do anything about that. For the Cup, we lost to Manchester City in the 3rd round and reached the semi finals of the Shield but lost on penalties to Leeds who went on it win it. Some say Vardy was sold for missing the last penalty kick, but I disagree with them although I was very angry for losing that match.

Player of the Season:

Fans were asked to vote for who their player of the season was, and Jamie Vardy was the guy to win it. He scored 15 goals in 32 league matches and was the 4th highest goal scorer behind Kane, Ronaldo and Aguero, he also got 7 MOTM awards and had an average rating of 7.12. Some say that it was a mistake to sell him and it could come back to haunt me, but we shall see next season since he has signed for Watford.

An honourable mention would have to be Ahmed Musa who had 15 assists. He had the 3rd highest assists only behind Hazard and Ronaldo. Sadly, he was also sold to Instanbul.

Season Facts:

Goals scored away: 22 (only Vardy was scoring)

Goals conceded away: 21

Biggest Win: 4 – 0 against unmanaged Burnley

Biggest Loss: 4 – 0 against Tottenham’s galacticos

4 out of the 12 losses we had were by more than one goal.

The only team that we lost to home and away were Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City

Conclusion:

Next season could prove to be more competitive with stronger managers coming in and teams being invested in. I think the objective for next season will be to make the top 8. This should prove be tough to achieve but I know that with the players that I have it is possible. Uruguay have also appointed me as their manager so I look forward to taking them at least to the quarter finals.
