You've done excellently well early doors with Wednesday, what has been the key to your success so far Johnny? It has been a good start to the season. Disappointed with the loss to Villa, we changed our formation to suit the opposition and it backfired but all in all things are going better than expected. I put our success down to balance. We are not dependent on a couple of star players so if the big guns do not play well, somebody else pops up with a goal or an assist to help out.
A very well built team, is there any youngsters other managers may not have heard of but to look out for in the future at Wednesday? Very happy with the squad we have built, have managed to pick up a few steals under the radar. Lysov from Lokomotiv Moscow is one I expect to rise. He is down as a striker but has picked up a lot of playing time at the Russian League leaders playing at wing back. Our first signing Filip Benkovic is going places. Likely to move in January with Inter favourites to land him in a 20 mill Euro deal.
You've started the season well and sit well in the mix for promotion early doors, is that something you think can be achieved this year? Our target at the beginning of the season was mid table with a possible push for the playoff spots. A good start has given us more confidence of getting top 6, if we can do that much, who knows? I still think we need a few more higher rated players to maintain our form so a couple of tough decisions to make regarding offloading players to supplement possible incomings.
Is the cups something you will be distracted by or is your main priority the league? After our start, I feel the league has to take priority, but our squad is strong enough to impact on the cups as well. Have Chelsea at home coming up in one of them, so that will probably be one less competition to worry about, although they might be distracted by other commitments.
Finally, how do you feel TFF can be improved? Improvements? Hard to say as it is going well as is, but maybe a bottom rating cap for Div 1 clubs. For example, they cant buy players 75 (80 at a push) or below. Would allow the lower league clubs to pick up some of the better talents while they are still afforadable and not have to over spend to do so.
