Leicester city: Mid-Season Review

With 19 games gone, Leicester City find themselves in 14th place, 4 points above relegation. This shows how hard this season is compared to the last season as I never went below the top 10 last season. The fans will hope that this team doesn't get relegated to Division 2 this season, but if results don't come our way, this may well happen. Looks like our competition strengthened more than us.

At the beginning of the season, we started off well. I thought finishing in the top half of the table would be possible and even the seven unbeaten match run which included a win over Liverpool suggested that. Then I was bought down to earth by Tottenham as I lost 5 - 3 to them. After the Tottenham loss, we lost to Manchester City and then Aston Villa in the cup on penalties. It seemed that our good form had returned as we managed to beat Stoke City, draw with Chelsea and beat Brighton in the Shield. Then a goalless period happened as my team struggled to score against Manchester United, Arsenal, Newcastle, Sunderland and Sheffield United in the Shield which resulted in us losing those matches. After a change in tactics, we fired back with a 3 - 1 win over Burnley then lost to Watford and Leeds. Finally, we scraped a 1 - 0 win over Crystal Palace.

In terms of transfers, the only player I brought in was Emerson from AS Roma to replace Henrichs in the lb role and Onyekuru because I wanted to sell Emre Mor.

We've scored 19 goals which is the third lowest in Division 1 and have conceded 29 which is the 5th highest in division 1. We also have the second lowest goal difference in the division. With goals being our biggest problem even from the first season, a better striker may be needed. Rumour has it that Isco may be used to bring a big striker in. If a striker can't be found, then a change in tactics will be required.

With Leicester City out of both cup competitions, we will focus all our efforts on pulling away from the relegation battle.

Season Rating:

4/10 - This season has been below average, especially at home when we've only won twice. We've had a low amount of goals scored and a huge amount of goals conceded, it's been a lackluster season so far. Can we end the season now?

Best Player so far:

Alarcon Isco: With an average rating of 7.41. He's the only player with a rating above a 7 this season. That says it all. I doubt if he has gotten below a 7 in a match before. He's also our highest goal scorer in the league even though he has played as an attacking midfielder most of the time. Sometimes I wish he could play as a striker and he may sold so that a striker can be bought. With Real Madrid interested in buying him back, a tough decision will have to be made.

Under Performers:

Benjamin Henrichs: He had to be dropped since he consistently got an average rating of 5. His average rating of 5.96 doesn't encourage me to keep him. He may be sold at the end of this season.

Apart from them, the rest of the players have been average or slightly below average. What does the second half of the season hold for us and will we be in division 2 next season. These are questions needed to be asked. Is there still hope for Leicester City, only time will tell.
